PEANUTS, GET YOUR PEANUTS! February 17, 2012 15:30
In an effort to be as environmentally friendly as possible, we have always used biodegradable cornstarch packing peanuts to ship Wee Cleaner. Yes, we know it’s a little messier to unpack, but over the years, we’ve been able to avoid using literally thousands of yards of plastic bubble wrap.
Benefits of Cornstarch Peanuts:
- 100% biodegradable
- non-toxic (safe for people and pets if accidentally ingested)
- not petroleum-based
So, what can you do with the peanuts if you’re not going to reuse them?
1. Compost. Go ahead, throw ‘em on the compost pile. They’re a great addition to your compost mix.
2. Hose them down. We’ve heard mixed advice on whether or not it’s safe to wash cornstarch peanuts down the drain. Some experts say it’s fine; some say they can clog up your pipes. So, just to be on the safe side, we recommend dumping them in the yard and either waiting for a nice rain or washing them away with a garden hose.
3. Arts and crafts! With just a little moisture, cornstarch peanuts stick together like glue. Your kids will get a kick out of building peanut-homes or peanut-pets!
